Market Leader: Advanced Final Progress Lesson

Task 1: Job interview

T: So, tell me about your part-time work experience. Have you had any part-time jobs?
S: Yes, I used to work at a convenience store when I was in high school. I also worked as a tutor while I was in university. I used to teach maths and English.
T: Have you done any internships?
S: Yes, in fact I did a summer internship at my current company before graduating from university, as part of my study requirements.
T: Do you have any overseas work experience?
S: Unfortunately no. I have worked and am still working with people overseas, but I haven’t had the chance to be transferred abroad yet. I hope to be able to work abroad in the future.
T: Tell me about any training programmes you have taken part in.
S: Well, I took part in my company’s sales training programme when I started out working in sales, and I took a computer course in using Office software. Since then I have also delivered some training programmes for our junior members, such as maximising sales potential and presenting our products in the best light.
T: I see. What skills have you developed over the years?
S: Well, I can use Office software very proficiently, and am a pretty good salesperson, I think. I have learned to work efficiently in a team, and have improved my English through interacting with foreign suppliers.

Task 2: Product presentation

“Ladies, gentlemen, I have here a product that will amaze you and help you triple your intake of vegetables day to day! Did you know that at least 60% of the population struggles to get their 5 servings a day? Why, I know a friend of a friend who wouldn’t eat vegetables at all, and ended up getting scurvy! The cause? They didn’t have time to make a salad because of their busy schedule. This product will help you get over this hurdle. It has 3 different sharp blades which will dice most vegetables in an instant. Tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots, radishes, anything you wish to put in your salad, with just a simple push gets diced and ready to eat! The diced veggies go into this handy container, which is graduated so you know exactly how much you have cut. If you order now, I will throw in this optional tool that helps you make ribbons of any vegetable. You could make zucchini spaghetti with it, for example. Order now!”

Task 3: Problem solving

T: Rosetta Stone Learning Center, Tim speaking.
S: Hello, my name is Rina Fujita, I’m calling from XYZ Printing company.
T: Ah, hello Ms Fujita. I was just about to call you, in fact.
S: Yes, I’ve heard you had some problem with our products?
T: Yes. We ordered 50 textbooks from you, but we have received 100 brochures instead.
S: Oh dear, I’m dreadfully sorry, you must have gotten the wrong order.
T: So it seems. We would like to return them and receive our correct order.
S: Let me see if I can track down your order and see what has happened to it.
T: Yes, but in the meantime we have no textbooks.
S: How about we reprint the order anyway and send it by expedited shipping?
T: That would be perfect. However, we don’t want to pay for two orders.
S: Since it was our mistake, you won’t have to pay for the extra print run. We would, however, would like to receive payment for the original order as soon as the textbooks are delivered.
T: That will work. We will transfer the payment as soon as we’ve confirmed receipt of the correct order.
S: Thank you. I would like to apologise once again for the trouble.
T: That’s no problem. When should the new books be here?
S: By the end of the week at the latest.
T: Very well. Thank you very much for resolving this.
