Market Leader: Intermediate Final Progress Lesson

Task 1: Presentation

“Hello everybody. Today I will talk about my company, XX.
First, I will explain my company’s activities. Then, I will talk about the benefits of joining us. Last, I will tell you a bit about what to expect when you visit us. Let’s get started.
So, first, our activities. XX is a leader in the YY industry. We make ZZ and ZZ1s. We mostly deal with ZZ.
If you join us, you can expect an exciting working environment, doing many different tasks. We also pay competitive salaries for our industry, and have a very good benefits package.
To learn more about our activities, you are of course invited to visit us. When you visit us, you will see our offices, where everyone works together in strong teams, and you can get a brief tour of the factory floor, where we do the final assembly of some of our ZZ products. There is also, of course, a cafeteria where our employees can have healthy, balanced lunches, and socialise.
Are there any questions?”

Task 2: Negotiation

T: Alright, so let’s get started. First of all, the price.
S: Yes. It’s $5 per unit.
T: I’m afraid that’s a little bit steep for us. If we make a large order, will you give us a discount?
S: If you order over 200 t-shirts, we can give you a 10% discount.
T: We were thinking of ordering 150 t-shirts to start with.
S: Then I’m afraid we can’t give you 10%, but we could maybe give you a 5% discount.
T: How about 7%?
S: That sounds reasonable, as long as you pay us within 10 days of delivery.
T: That’s a little bit tight, but we should be able to do it. Speaking of the delivery, when can you deliver by?
S: We can have your order in by the end of the month.
T: Sounds good!

Task 3: Arranging a meeting on the phone

T: Rosetta Stone Learning Center, Linda speaking.
S: Ah, Linda! It’s Aiko, how are you?
T: Aiko! I’m great, thanks, how about yourself?
S: I’m good, thank you. I’m calling to schedule a meeting to discuss our new lesson plans.
T: I see. What day would be good for you?
S: Are you free on Monday or Wednesday?
T: I’m free on Wednesday. The 5th, yes?
S: Yes, Wednesday the 5th, in the morning?
T: That sounds good to me… oh wait, I do have something in the morning. Would the afternoon be ok?
S: Oh, I’m busy in the afternoon. How about Thursday?
T: I’m free all day on Thursday.
S: Great, so let’s meet at 11am?
T: Yes, Thursday the 6th, at 11am. Where would you like to meet?
S: Let’s meet at the school.
T: That sounds good to me.
S: So just to confirm, Thursday the 6th, at 11am, at the school.
T: That sounds right. See you then!
S: See you then!
