EA: Book 3 Final Progress Lesson

Task #5 - Speech

Actually, this isn’t a pool table. This is a snooker table! Oh, you’ve never heard of snooker before? It’s a really fantastic game! It’s a billiards game, similar to pool, but the table is about twice the size. It’s a little bit more complicated than pool. First of all, pick up the cue. Now, let’s use the cue to hit the white ball into all the reds. This is a called a “break”. After that, use the white ball to “pot” a red. You need to pot a red before you can go for a color ball. When all the reds are gone, you have to hit the balls in order: yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, then black. You win when you pot the black. However, you must pot the balls in the correct order, and you mustn’t pot the white!

Task #6 - Interview

A: Have you been to any interesting events recently?
B: Sure! Last week, I actually attended my first Indian wedding.
A: Wow. How was it?
B: It was brilliant. So much fun.
A: Did you dress like a regular wedding?
B: I just wore a shirt and tie. But many of the women had colorful wedding sarees on. It’s a type of Indian dress.
A: Wonderful. How about the food?
B: We had a variety of traditional Indian foods. Very spicy and exotic.
A: Sounds yummy. What was the highlight of the event for you?
B: In the evening, we all danced to funky Indian music.
A: Would you like to go to an Indian wedding again?
B: Absolutely!

Task #7 - Role-play

A: I’d really like to take a trip this weekend.
B: What sort of place are you thinking?
A: I’m not sure! I’d like to visit somewhere historical.
B: Do you have much time.
A: Not really. If you had 2 days for a trip, where would you go?
B: I’d probably visit Kamakura.
A: Oh yeah?
B: It’s a traditional town not far from Tokyo.
A: What can I do there?
B: There are lots of historical buildings and there is a giant statue of The Great Buddha. It’s really beautiful.
A: How can I get there?
B: You can take the regular train. It only takes about 90 minutes from here.
A: And where can I buy a ticket?
B: You can buy a reserved seat at the ticket office in the station.
A: That’s easy. Is there anything else you recommend?

Task #8 - Roleplay

A: Excuse me, do you have a moment?
B: Certainly Sir. How may I help?
A: I’m looking to buy a television.
B: What type of TV are you looking for?
A: I’d a television that is HD.
B: Sure. The HD-ready TV’s are over here.
A: And I’d like something that is slim.
B: No problem. All of our TV’s are rather slim! How about these two models? The RX80 is slimmer, as you can see, but the RX120 is larger.
A: Which one has the best image quality?
B: The RX80 is very good, but the RX120 is better.
A: It looks great. However, I think I need something a little cheaper.
B: Well, the RX80 is cheaper. The RX120 is a little more expensive.
A: If I paid by cash today, could you give me a discount?
B: Yes, we could offer a you a 10% discount if you pay buy cash.
A: Great! I’ll take it
