< Previous Lesson | Next Lesson >
This lesson presents a problem that the student needs to solve. Read the situation, then use the content from the three sections (Reading, Listening, and Interview) to complete the final task.
By the end of the lesson, the student should be able to plan a kid's birthday party.
Communication strategies:
The student should be able to plan the kid's party using the strategy below:
1) discuss and decide what presents you are going to buy and why
2) discuss and decide what activities you are going to plan and why
3) discuss and decide what games you are going to play and how to play them
4) discuss and describe the animals you are going to get for the petting zoo
e.g.
A) So, let's plan the party. What presents do you think we should buy for Lisa?
B) She wants a puppy. But I don't think we can afford a puppy.
A) I agree.
B) She also said she wants some Legos and some Play-doh. I think we can easily get that.
A) She also said that she wants a new skipping rope because she lost her old one.
B) OK. Let's get her that too.
A) Do you think there is anything else she would like?
B) She loves chocolate that has caramel inside. Let's get her some chocolate too.
A) Sure. OK. Now what activities should we plan? We didn't plan any last time.
B) How about we have a dress up competition, we can also play pass the parcel and musical chairs. Kids love those games.
A) Pass the parcel?
B) Yeah, it's a game. You wrap a present in many layers of wrapping paper. People sit in a circle. You play music. While the music is playing you pass the present around the circle. When the music stops, the person holding the present gets to unwrap one layer. The winner is the person who unwraps the last layer.
A) Sure. That sounds fun. Oh, should we get a petting zoo.
B) Yeah, I think the kids would like it.
A) Let's make sure we get some lamas. Lisa love lamas.
B) What's a lama?
A) It's like a camel, but it it's smaller and it doesn't have a hump. Also they have really nice fur. They usually live in South America.
B) OK. Cool. I'll call the petting zoo and see if they have any lamas.
